Limpopo police have warned the public against circulating old videos, pictures and misleading information on social media during the 2026 Local Government Elections.
Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Jan Petrus Scheepers said misleading content falsely presented as current election-related incidents could cause unnecessary panic, conflict and intolerance in communities.
He urged South Africans to verify information before sharing it and avoid content that could provoke violence.
Police are closely monitoring social media platforms and remain on high alert to respond to posts or messages intended to incite violence or disrupt peace and stability.
“Anyone found using social media platforms to incite violence or promote unlawful activities will be dealt with in accordance with the law,” SAPS warned.
