‘Leave my integrity alone’: Nomvalo breaks silence over alleged assassination plot and fake intelligence reports

Former uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party Secretary-General Sibonelo Nomvalo has broken his silence following his removal, making explosive allegations that he was targeted through fabricated intelligence reports accusing him of plotting to kill people and being an agent of President Cyril Ramaphosa.

Speaking in Durban, Nomvalo described the accusations as the most painful experience of his life, saying his integrity had been attacked through allegations he insists were false.

“You can take away my position in the party and my seat in Parliament, but please leave my integrity alone,” he said.

Nomvalo said he was not surprised by his removal, claiming that several attempts had previously been made to force him out through intelligence reports allegedly presented to party president Jacob Zuma.

He rejected allegations that he colluded with African National Congress (ANC) leaders and interfered with the MK Party’s candidate selection process ahead of the local government elections.

He also singled out former eThekwini mayor Zandile Gumede as one of the people he alleges were behind the accusations against him.

Nomvalo was removed from his position by Zuma on 22 October 2026 following concerns raised about councillor selection, internal factionalism, dual remuneration, delays in campaign materials and changes to parliamentary structures.

In a letter addressed to Zuma, Nomvalo accused Gumede, national chairperson Mxolisi Phakathi and head of the Presidency Lindelani Mbambo of being involved in efforts to undermine him.

He alleged that the individuals wanted to gain control of the party’s candidate deployment processes ahead of the elections and claimed that false reports were deliberately presented to Zuma to influence his decision to remove him.

Nomvalo maintains that he has evidence and witnesses to support his allegations.

Despite losing his senior party position and parliamentary seat, Nomvalo has indicated that he intends to establish a foundation, signalling plans to continue with his work outside the party’s structures.

His removal has exposed tensions within the MK Party over leadership, internal power struggles and the selection of candidates ahead of the local government elections.

The party has appointed Deputy Secretary-General Lindiwe Mtshali as acting secretary-general.
