Twenty people have been arrested in Limpopo as police intensify their crackdown on election-related offences during the 2026 Local Government Elections.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) confirmed that 33 cases had been opened across the province since the election period began on Monday.
The cases include violations of the Electoral Act, fraud, assault, malicious damage to property and pointing a firearm.
Among the reported incidents are allegations of voters taking photographs of their marked ballot papers and sharing them on social media, compromising the secrecy of the voting process.
Limpopo Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Jan Scheepers warned that anyone found breaking electoral laws would face the consequences, regardless of their political affiliation or position.
Some of the arrested suspects have already appeared in local magistrates’ courts.
Police say operations will continue to ensure safety and maintain law and order throughout the electoral process.
