Two brothers, Anele Mjambana (35) and Sandiso Mjambana (37), have been sentenced by the Cacadu High Court for murder, attempted murder and malicious damage to property following a violent attack in Cofimvaba.
The brothers, from Mahlubini Locality in the Skobeni Administrative Area, were sentenced on 29 October 2026.
The incident occurred on 15 November 2025 when Anele allegedly enlisted his brother Sandiso to confront a 52-year-old man whom he believed was romantically involved with his 36-year-old girlfriend.
The brothers went to the man’s residence, broke a window to gain entry and attacked the occupants.
Anele assaulted the 52-year-old man, who died from his injuries, while Sandiso attacked Anele’s girlfriend with glasses, leaving her with permanent damage to one eye.
Both brothers were arrested and remained in custody throughout the trial.
The court sentenced Sandiso to three years’ direct imprisonment for malicious damage to property and 15 years for attempted murder.
Anele received five years’ imprisonment for housebreaking with intent to commit an offence and 20 years for murder.
All sentences will run concurrently. Both brothers were also declared unfit to possess firearms.
District Commissioner Major General Rudolph Adolph welcomed the sentences, saying they would send a strong message to perpetrators of gender-based violence.
