The National Consumer Commission (NCC) has announced a safety recall affecting selected 2024 to 2027 Jaguar Land Rover vehicles after a defect was identified that could lead to engine oil leaks and pose a hazard to other road users.
The recall, issued on Thursday, covers selected Jaguar F-PACE, Defender, Discovery, Range Rover, Range Rover Sport and Range Rover Velar models sold in South Africa between March 2024 and April 2026, depending on the model.
According to the NCC, the problem affects certain AJ20-D6 engines, where the Front-End Auxiliary Drive (FEAD) belt idler pulley may over-rotate after a high-torsion input. This can damage the engine oil pressure and temperature sensor, potentially causing an engine oil leak.
The commission warned that leaking oil could create a serious slip hazard for other road users, particularly motorcyclists and other riders of two-wheeled vehicles.
Owners of the affected vehicles have been urged to contact their nearest Jaguar Land Rover dealership to arrange a free inspection and replacement of the FEAD idler pulley.
The NCC said the repairs will be carried out at no cost to affected consumers and encouraged vehicle owners to act promptly to ensure their safety and that of other road users.
