R432 745 worth of suspected stolen goods recovered in Kensington

Kensington police have arrested a 37-year-old man and recovered goods worth R432 745 following an investigation into a suspected fraud syndicate targeting hardware stores across South Africa.

The suspect was arrested on Thursday, 5 November 2026, after police uncovered a storage facility in 11th Street, Kensington, where goods allegedly purchased through fraudulent transactions were being kept.

According to police, the arrest follows an intensive investigation into several fraud cases reported in the Western Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, Eastern Cape and Gauteng.

The syndicate allegedly targeted hardware stores using fraudulent identification documents to purchase goods on credit before reselling them on the black market.

Crime Intelligence officers identified several storage facilities allegedly used by the suspects in the province.

On Thursday, police monitored one of the facilities in Kensington after receiving credible information about a delivery of goods that had allegedly been fraudulently purchased from a company in East London.

The recipient of the goods was subsequently arrested and charged with possession of suspected stolen property.

The 37-year-old suspect is expected to appear before the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 9 November 2026.

Police say further arrests are expected as investigations into the alleged fraud syndicate continue.
