The Provincial Commissioner of the Eastern Cape, Lieutenant General Vuyisile Ncata, has welcomed the indefinite imprisonment of 32-year-old Lesotho national, Lechasa Glass, following his conviction on six counts of rape. The court further declared him a dangerous criminal under Section 286 A and B of the Criminal Procedure Act.
Glass, already serving six life sentences and multiple fixed terms at St Albans Correctional Centre, was previously convicted in May 2024 on 24 counts, including multiple rapes and robberies committed between 2015 and 2022 in Addo and Joubertina. Despite being behind bars, further DNA analysis linked him to three additional dockets involving victims aged 13, 16, and 23.
On April 14, 2026, Glass was found guilty of all six charges across these cases. The crimes included threatening children at knifepoint, assaulting victims’ relatives, and committing repeated rapes without remorse. Psychiatric observation confirmed he was mentally fit and acted intentionally.
On June 4, 2026, the court sentenced Glass to indefinite imprisonment, with a review scheduled after 23 years.
Lieutenant General Ncata praised the meticulous work of Detective Warrant Officer Sonwabile Dlomo and Detective Sergeant Vuyokazi Bayi, whose use of DNA technology was instrumental in securing the convictions.
“We commend the investigating team, the NPA, and the judiciary for ensuring that a dangerous predator has been removed from society indefinitely. We hope this brings closure to the many survivors and their families,” Ncata said.
