A Burundian pastor has been arrested after allegedly stabbing a South African woman more than 40 times in a brutal early-morning attack that left her fighting for her life in intensive care.
The victim is the sister of artist Pastor Mjosty.
Community activist Jacinta Ngobese-Zuma said the attack may have been linked to the March and March movement after the suspect allegedly confronted the victim over her brother’s support for the organisation. March and March also claims the suspect was the victim’s former partner and that she had previously obtained a protection order against him. These claims have not been confirmed by police.
The movement further alleges the suspect attacked the woman at her home before also targeting her daughter. A neighbour reportedly chased the suspect and alerted police, leading to his arrest.
KwaZulu-Natal police have confirmed the arrest of a 49-year-old foreign national, who is expected to appear in court once formally charged. Police investigations are ongoing, while the victim remains in intensive care.
