A 37-year-old man arrested in connection with the murder of Democratic Alliance (DA) councillor Sinovuya Dyokwe is expected to appear in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on Monday on charges of murder and extortion.
The suspect was arrested during a joint operation conducted by the Western Cape Serious Violent Crime Investigation (SVCI) unit and the SAPS Special Task Force following an intensive investigation into Dyokwe’s killing.
Police said the breakthrough came after investigators acted on information received from members of the public regarding the suspect’s whereabouts. The information led officers to successfully locate and arrest the suspect.
Authorities have described the arrest as a significant milestone in the investigation,but stressed that the case is far from over. Detectives are continuing to pursue all individuals believed to have been involved in the crime, with further arrests expected.
