A 23-year-old man from Maya Locality in Cofimvaba is expected to appear in the Komani Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 23 July 2026, on charges of unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition after police allegedly found him with two unlicensed firearms during an intelligence-driven operation.
The suspect was arrested on Tuesday, 21 July 2026, by a joint team comprising members of the Komani Flying Squad, K9 Unit and Crime Intelligence.
According to police, officers acted on information that the suspect was travelling from Cofimvaba to Komani while carrying a firearm. Authorities further alleged that residents in his community had been living in fear because he was known for allegedly firing shots randomly in the area.
A multidisciplinary operation was immediately launched, leading to the suspect’s arrest.
Police said officers searched the suspect and allegedly found him in possession of an unlicensed Norinco firearm and ammunition.
The team then accompanied the suspect to his home in Maya Locality, where a further search allegedly uncovered a second firearm, a Taurus pistol, as well as additional ammunition.
Both firearms were confiscated and seized as evidence. Police said ballistic testing will be conducted to determine whether the weapons may be linked to any previous criminal cases.
The suspect is expected to make his first court appearance in the Komani Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, where he will face charges relating to the unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.
