Tsolo police recover suspected stolen sheep worth over R180,000

Police in Tsolo have successfully recovered 100 sheep believed to have been stolen, following a swift response by the Tsolo Crime Prevention Unit (CPU) on Monday

According to police, a complaint was received at approximately 21:30 reporting the theft of livestock from a kraal in the Sidwadweni locality. Officers acted quickly, and within an hour, they managed to trace and locate the abandoned flock in a nearby area.

The recovered sheep, estimated to be worth over R180,000, were found unharmed and have since been returned to their rightful owner.
No arrests have been made at this stage, and investigations into the incident are ongoing. Police have urged members of the public to come forward with any information that could assist in identifying those responsible.

The OR Tambo District Commissioner, Major General Norman Modishana, commended the rapid response by officers involved in the recovery.
“Livestock remains a primary source of wealth and livelihood for many of our people, especially in rural communities. The loss of 100 sheep is not just a financial blow but an attack on a family’s heritage and survival,” he said.

He further praised the vigilance of the Crime Prevention Unit and reaffirmed the police’s commitment to bringing the perpetrators to justice.
“We will not rest until those responsible are brought to book. I also urge livestock owners to remain alert, mark their animals clearly, and report any suspicious activity without delay,” added Modishana.
