Stolen livestock worth R30,000 recovered in Qumbu

Two men have been arrested in connection with the theft of livestock in Qumbu after police recovered 21 sheep and two goats allegedly stolen from a local kraal.

The suspects, aged 49 and 50, were apprehended by Qumbu police on Monday, 22 June 2026, following a swift operation that led officers to Tyuma locality in the Gungqwane Administrative Area.

According to police, officers acted on information regarding the theft of livestock from a kraal in Nkonkweni locality, Qumbu, at about 01:00. Investigations led police to the suspects, who were found in possession of the stolen animals.

All 23 livestock, valued at approximately R30,000, were successfully recovered and returned to their rightful owner. Police said the identification process was made easier because the animals had been branded.

The two suspects are expected to appear before the Qumbu Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 24 June 2026, on charges of contravening the Stock Theft Act.

OR Tambo District Commissioner Major General Norman Modishana commended the officers involved in the operation for their commitment and swift response.

“Relentless efforts by police in the district in fighting crime is highly commendable,” said Modishana.
