A 19-year-old suspect is expected to appear in the Lusikisiki Magistrate’s Court after being arrested just hours after an armed robbery at a clothing store in the Lusikisiki CBD.
The robbery occurred at about 15:30 on Saturday, 20 June 2026, when three armed men allegedly stormed the business and fled with an undisclosed amount of cash and several clothing items.
Members of the Lusikisiki-based OR Tambo District Task Team immediately launched an investigation, gathering intelligence that led them to a suspect in Bazana locality. The 19-year-old was arrested at approximately 18:30 on the same day.
During the arrest, police recovered a Flywheel revolver with an erased serial number and two live rounds of ammunition. Officers also found clothing items believed to have been stolen during the robbery, which were positively identified by the store management, as well as R9,500 in cash.
Police said two other suspects linked to the robbery remain at large, but investigators are actively pursuing leads and are confident of making further arrests.
The suspect faces charges of armed robbery, possession of suspected stolen property, unlawful possession of an unlicensed firearm, and unlawful possession of ammunition.
OR Tambo District Commissioner, Norman Modishana, commended the swift response by the District Task Team, saying their efforts demonstrated a strong commitment to combating business robberies in Lusikisiki.
He urged officers to continue their pursuit of the remaining suspects and leave no stone unturned in bringing all those involved to justice. Investigations are ongoing.
