Norman Modishana, OR Tambo District Commissioner, has welcomed the swift arrest of two men, aged 43 and 49, in connection with the murder of a 57-year-old woman in Bityi.
The incident occurred at Chibini locality in Ngquqha Administrative Area on Sunday morning, where the suspects — including the victim’s alleged boyfriend — were reportedly the last people seen leaving a local tavern with her.
According to police, the woman’s lifeless body was later discovered near the tavern by community members, sparking outrage in the area.
Preliminary investigations by Bityi detectives led to the arrest of the two suspects. It is alleged that the victim was assaulted with sticks, although the motive behind the attack remains unclear.
Major General Modishana has urged investigators to intensify efforts to uncover the full circumstances surrounding the killing and ensure that all those responsible are brought to justice.
