Prince Mbonisi and 23 members of the Zulu royal family have made a final attempt to
challenge King Misuzulu’s recognition by asking the Constitutional Court to reconsider
its earlier refusal to grant them leave to appeal.
They argue that the process of identifying Misuzulu as king was flawed, claiming non-
family members were involved, and that the decision violated provisions of the
Leadership Act. Mbonisi is also seeking permission to present oral arguments, citing
past cases where the court reversed its own decisions.
He further contends that conflicting rulings by the Pretoria High Court and the Supreme
Court of Appeal show the matter deserves reconsideration, and that the principle of res
judicata should not have been strictly applied.
Meanwhile, Prince Simakade has distanced himself from this new application, despite
still disputing the outcome. Mbonisi is reportedly backing Prince Buzabazi Zulu as an
alternative successor.
