Eastern Cape health department investigates alleged misuse of ambulance during elections

The Eastern Cape Department of Health has launched an investigation following allegations that one of its Emergency Medical Services (EMS) vehicles was used to transport voters to voting stations during the 2026 Local Government Elections.

The Department said it had been alerted to the allegations and stressed that ambulances are strictly reserved for medical emergencies and may not be used for political activities or voter transportation.

EMS personnel were deployed at strategic locations across the province, including areas surrounding voting stations, to ensure emergency medical assistance was available throughout the voting process.

The Department said it took the allegations seriously and had instituted an investigation to establish the facts surrounding the incident.
