ANC urges voters to turn out in numbers as South Africans head to polls

The African National Congress (ANC) has urged registered voters to turn out in large numbers and vote for the party as South Africans head to the polls for the 2026 Local Government Elections on Wednesday, 4 November.

In a statement issued on Election Day, the ANC said it approached the elections with humility and acknowledged concerns raised by communities, pledging to regain public confidence through service delivery, accountability and action.

The party highlighted the importance of local government in addressing everyday community needs, including reliable water and electricity, functioning roads, refuse collection and safer neighbourhoods.

The ANC said it wanted to advance its election manifesto commitments and strengthen accountable and responsive local government.

It also acknowledged that shortcomings in some communities had tested residents’ patience and confidence, saying these concerns required urgent and practical solutions.

Meanwhile, the party urged voters to go to voting stations early, citing the South African Weather Service forecast of possible afternoon showers and thundershowers in parts of the country.

Voting stations opened at 7am and are scheduled to close at 9pm.

The ANC also called on its branches, members and volunteers to intensify efforts to assist voters in reaching voting stations.

It urged voters to participate peacefully, respect electoral officials and reject intimidation and misinformation.

“On this day, make your voice heard. Vote ANC. Let us move forward together to build better communities and a better South Africa,” the party said.
