A 65-year-old man has been arrested after police allegedly found him in possession of suspected stolen copper cable in Swartkops, Gqeberha.
The arrest was made at about 1.20am on Wednesday, 29 July, while SAPS Swartkops officers were conducting patrols in Wells Estate.
According to police, officers spotted a suspicious white Nissan Navara parked in bushes near Ngubelanga Street. As they approached the vehicle, five suspects allegedly began throwing bundles of copper cable from the back of the bakkie.
Police managed to arrest one suspect, while the other four fled the scene in the vehicle.
About 100kg of suspected stolen copper cable was recovered and confiscated.
A case of possession of suspected stolen property has been opened at Swartkops Police Station, and police are continuing their investigation to trace the remaining suspects.
