Madlanga Commission orders Carrim to testify inperson on 14 August

The Madlanga Commission has ruled that Suliman Carrim must appear in person to continue his testimony on 14 August 2026, unless he can prove that he is medically unfit to testify.

Carrim’s testimony was initially postponed after he was rushed to hospital in April following a suspected heart attack. Although he later made his first appearance before the commission, he did not testify, citing ongoing health concerns.

In its ruling, the commission said Carrim will only be excused from appearing if he submits credible medical evidence confirming that he is unable to testify. It added that any medical assessment must explain why his condition prevents him from giving evidence despite tracking data showing that he spent significant periods away from the medical facility where he is receiving treatment.
