Two male suspects, both foreign nationals, are expected to appear before the Makhanda Magistrate’s Court on charges of drug dealing and possession.
The arrests follow a coordinated operation conducted on Monday, 20 April 2026, involving the Makhanda Crime Intelligence Unit, K9 Unit, Highway Patrol Unit, and Crime Prevention Unit. The team executed a search warrant at a residence in Joza, Makhanda, leading to the discovery of various illegal substances.
Police confiscated drugs with an estimated street value of R25,000, including 40.18 grams of tik (crystal meth), 69 mandrax tablets, 4.51 grams of heroin rocks, 10.76 grams of cocaine, and eight dagga “bompies”.
Two suspects, aged 35 and 44, both Ethiopian nationals, were arrested at the scene and are expected to make their first court appearance soon.
Acting Sarah Baartman District Commissioner Asogran Naidoo praised the officers involved for their efforts in tackling drug-related crime.
“The confiscation of these drugs has undoubtedly prevented them from reaching our communities and destroying lives. The fight against drugs remains a top priority for the South African Police Service,” Naidoo said.
Police investigations are ongoing.
