Masemola to appear in court over R360 million Medicare24 tender

National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola is expected to appear before the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court today, facing criminal charges linked to the controversial R360 million Medicare24 tender.

The case centres on the awarding of the lucrative contract to Medicare24, a company reportedly connected to alleged crime kingpin Vusimuzi Matlala, also known as “Cat”. Authorities are probing the procurement process, with questions raised about possible irregularities and the role of senior officials.

Masemola has denied any wrongdoing, maintaining that he has fully cooperated with both the courts and law enforcement agencies throughout the investigation. In previous remarks, he stressed his commitment to transparency and accountability, saying he is confident that the legal process will clear his name.

Proceedings at the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court are expected to focus on the charges against Masemola and determine the way forward in the case, including potential bail considerations and timelines for further hearings.

More details are expected to emerge as the matter unfolds in court.
