KwaZulu-Natal police have arrested a 36-year-old man allegedly linked to the rape of 14 women in the Zululand District and Gauteng.
The suspect was arrested by Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit detectives in the Ncotshane area of Nongoma on Sunday, 20 September 2026.
Police said the suspect allegedly first raped a woman in Mahlabathini in January 2010. He was arrested and released on bail but later absconded from court, resulting in a warrant being issued for his arrest.
While out on bail, he allegedly raped seven women in Pongola, four in Primrose and Germiston in Gauteng, and one each in Paulpietersburg and Magudu.
Police said the suspect allegedly targeted women who were alone at home, breaking windows or doors before threatening them with a knife.
DNA evidence collected during the original investigation allegedly linked him to the various cases.
The suspect is expected to appear in the Mahlabathini Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 21 September, for failing to appear in court in 2010. He will thereafter face charges relating to the other 13 rape cases.
