Qumbu police arrest suspect found with 15 stolen cattle worth R180,000

Police in Qumbu have arrested a 27-year-old man in connection with stock theft after he was found in possession of 15 suspected stolen cattle.

The arrest took place on Thursday, 16 April, at around 15:00 in Mjikweni locality, Ngcolokini A/A, following a tip-off about cattle believed to have been stolen in Sulenkama.

Officers approached the suspect and recovered the livestock, with an estimated value of R180,000. The man is expected to appear before the Qumbu Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 17 April, facing charges under the Stock Theft Act.

Investigations are ongoing, and police are still working to locate the rightful owner of the cattle.

OR Tambo District Commissioner, Major General Norman Modishana, said police remain committed to tackling stock theft in the area.

“Stock theft is leaving families, especially small-scale farmers, deeply impoverished. Farmers are reminded that it is critical and legally required to brand their livestock at six months,” he said.
