Majola Police Constable arrested after alleged shooting spree at station

A 24-year-old constable stationed at Majola Police Station has been arrested following a violent shooting incident that erupted at the station on Monday, 25 May 2026.

According to reports, the officer was already implicated in two separate violent incidents over the weekend in which he allegedly stabbed two men during quarrels and later stole two private vehicles. One of the vehicles was reportedly crashed, while the other rolled into water. No cases were opened at the time.

Police say tensions escalated on Monday when both victims arrived at the station to engage management regarding damages. During the meeting, the constable allegedly forced open a colleague’s safe, took a service firearm, and opened fire on station members and complainants.

The Acting Station Commander was shot below the left arm and is currently in stable condition.

A shoot-out then ensued between the suspect and other officers. The constable fled the scene into nearby bushes but was later tracked down and arrested.

The suspect now faces multiple charges, including four counts of attempted murder, theft of a firearm, unlawful possession of a firearm, as well as charges linked to the weekend stabbing incidents and vehicle thefts. He is expected to appear before the Port St John’s Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 27 May 2026.

The Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Vuyisile Ncata, strongly condemned the incident, calling it a “betrayal of the SAPS uniform” and reaffirming that no member of the police service is above the law.
