Lieutenant General Jan Petrus Scheepers has been appointed as the new Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo, with his appointment taking effect from 1 August 2026.
The appointment places a highly experienced police officer at the helm of policing in the province as the South African Police Service (SAPS) strengthens its leadership in the fight against crime.
Lieutenant General Scheepers brings nearly four decades of dedicated service to South Africa, having built his career in some of the country’s most challenging policing environments. His extensive experience spans operational policing, leadership and crisis management.
In addition to his policing experience, Scheepers holds a National Diploma in Policing and a National Diploma in Theology. He is also a trained hostage and suicide negotiator, skills that have contributed to his reputation as an experienced and capable law enforcement leader.
SAPS said Scheepers’ appointment reflects the organisation’s commitment to placing professional and experienced leaders in key positions to enhance policing and improve public safety.
