Judgment is expected today in the urgent application brought by two ANC members challenging the party’s candidate lists for the 2026 local government elections.
The applicants want the Makhanda High Court to set aside councillor and mayoral candidate lists, alleging that ANC nomination procedures and guidelines were not followed.
They further claim that some of the final lists were altered and did not reflect the outcomes of Branch General Meetings.
ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula, Eastern Cape secretary Lulama Ngcukaitobi and the party’s provincial executive committee are among those cited in the application.
The respondents have argued that the matter is not urgent and should instead be heard by the Electoral Court, as it concerns the upcoming elections and involves the IEC.
The applicants include ANC members from areas such as Inxuba Yethemba, Chris Hani and Alfred Nzo.
