Deputy Minister of Transport, Mkhuleko Hlengwa, has taken the Mega Transport Career Expo and the Shova Kalula Bicycle Initiative to Ngqeleni in the Eastern Cape.
The initiative forms part of government efforts to expose learners to career opportunities while also addressing transport challenges in underserved communities.
A key focus of the visit was the Shova Kalula National Bicycle Programme, launched in 2001 to assist learners who travel long distances of 3–5 km or more to school.
More than 100,000 bicycles have been distributed , helping to improve school attendance and ease transport burdens on low-income households.
