The South African Police Service (SAPS) has praised the newly established Gauteng Political Killings Task Team (PKTT) after it arrested suspects in two separate high-profile political murder cases.
Two suspects, including an alleged hitman, were arrested for the murder of ANC Ward 10 councillor Thabang Masemola, who was killed in Mamelodi East in July 2025. The alleged hitman will also be linked to two additional murder-related cases.
In a separate investigation, three suspects were arrested for the murder, kidnapping and robbery of EFF member Aaron Makola. They are expected to appear in the Delmas Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
Acting National Commissioner Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane commended the task team for the breakthroughs.
“These breakthroughs demonstrate SAPS’ unwavering commitment to ensuring that those who commit violent crimes are tracked down and brought before the courts,” said Dimpane.
She added that police remain committed to bringing perpetrators of politically motivated killings to justice and providing answers to victims’ families.
