After a challenging period on the sidelines, Sinenkani FC is officially back in competitive football. The team, which had been suspended since January 25, 2025, has now been given the green light to resume playing. This long-awaited news has sparked excitement among the players, coaching staff, and fans.
The rivalry between Sinenkani FC and FC Ravens in the ABC Motsepe League has always been intense, both on the field and off. Their most recent clash on January 25, 2025, at Mafumbatha Stadium ended with FC Ravens emerging victorious, securing a 1-0 win thanks to a decisive goal by Sfundo Dlamini.
The match, however, was marred by controversy. Sinenkani FC was accused of assaulting a match official during the game, a serious allegation that led to immediate disciplinary actions from the South African Football Association (SAFA). Adding to the drama, Sinenkani FC raised concerns about a potential conflict of interest, as the match commissioner, Thenjana “Faku,” is the father of an FC Ravens player. Despite these allegations, SAFA Eastern Cape dismissed the complaint, prompting Sinenkani FC to escalate the matter to SAFA’s Arbitration Committee.
On February 16, 2025, Sinenkani FC attended a disciplinary hearing held in East London, where SAFA’s Arbitration Committee handed down its ruling. The team was ordered to:
- Pay a fine of R20,000.
- Play their next two matches behind closed doors (without supporters).
- Cover the costs associated with the disciplinary hearing.
With the suspension now lifted, Sinenkani FC will return to the field on Saturday, February 22, 2025, in their first match after the ban. They are set to face FC Siyanda at Mphuthumi Mafumbatha Stadium in Bizana. The team is eager to prove themselves and put the past behind them as they look forward to getting back to competitive play.
