Stuart Scharnick has been denied bail after appearing in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court in connection with firearms-related charges.
The 40-year-old ally of the suspended deputy national police commissioner Shadrack Sibiya’s was arrested in Pretoria last week following an intimidation allegation, with police subsequently seizing several of his licensed firearms.
Scharnick is facing charges of allegedly failing to update his residential address with the Central Firearms Registry, sharing firearm safe keys with another person and using a firearm safe that does not comply with legal requirements.
The State had requested a seven-day postponement, citing verification issues as well as previous cases involving Scharnick that were withdrawn.
The court ultimately denied Scharnick bail, meaning he will remain in custody as the matter continues.
