The National Consumer Commission (NCC) has announced a nationwide safety recall of certain Hino 700 Series trucks after a manufacturing defect was identified that could potentially lead to fuel leaks.
The recall, issued following a notification from Toyota South Africa Motors (Pty) Ltd, affects eighteen Hino 700 Series truck models sold through authorised Toyota dealerships across South Africa between 10 September 2024 and 10 December 2024.
According to the NCC, the defect relates to the fuel pump housing, which underwent an inappropriate surface treatment process during production. The supplier warned that cracks may develop in the component when the supply pump is subjected to repeated high loads, potentially resulting in a fuel leak.
The commission has urged owners of the affected vehicles to take immediate action by visiting their nearest authorised Toyota dealership for an inspection and repair.
“As part of the recall, a new fuel pump will be fitted to the affected trucks,” the NCC said in a statement.
Toyota South Africa Motors has assured consumers that all inspections, repairs and corrective work associated with the recall will be carried out free of charge.
The NCC emphasised the importance of responding promptly to the recall notice to ensure the safety and reliability of the affected vehicles.
