Nelson Mandela Bay officials visited a bereaved family that lost two toddlers in a devastating house fire in KwaZakhele earlier this month.
The visit was led by Executive Mayor Babalwa Lobishe and Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner Vuyisile Ncata, who met with the grieving family to offer support and discuss progress in the investigation.
The two children died after a fire engulfed a house in Tshawuka Street on 17 May 2026. Their bodies were later found inside the burnt home, with DNA tests still under way to formally confirm their identities.
During the engagement, the family raised concerns about the investigation. Lt Gen Ncata assured them that SAPS remains committed to the case and announced that a dedicated investigating officer would be appointed to keep the family updated.
Mayor Lobishe also pledged continued support to the family as the KwaZakhele community continues mourning the tragic loss of the two young children.
