Ten people arrested for livestock theft in Aberdeen

Ten suspects have been arrested in Aberdeen following a police operation that led to the recovery of livestock suspected to be stolen along the R338 Klipplaat Road.

Members of the South African Police Service acted on intelligence about a vehicle allegedly linked to stock theft in the area. During patrols on Sunday night, officers spotted a white Toyota Corolla towing a Mitsubishi Colt bakkie matching the description provided.

When police moved in, two suspects fled into nearby bushes, while officers intercepted both vehicles. A search revealed three occupants in the Corolla and seven inside the bakkie, where 11 sheep were found in the load area.

All ten individuals were arrested on charges of possession of suspected stolen livestock. The animals, along with both vehicles believed to have been used in the alleged crime, were confiscated.

Police say the swift interception highlights ongoing efforts to combat stock theft in rural areas, a crime that continues to affect farmers and livestock owners across the Eastern Cape. The recovered livestock, valued at approximately R25,000, has been secured as investigations continue.
