The Presidency says it has noted the judgment of the Constitutional Court of South Africa in the matter brought by the Economic Freedom Fighters challenging the National Assembly’s decision regarding Section 89 proceedings against President Cyril Ramaphosa.
In a statement released following the ruling, the Presidency said Ramaphosa respects the judgment of the Constitutional Court and remains committed to upholding the Constitution, the independence of the judiciary and the rule of law.
“The President respects the Constitutional Court’s judgment and reaffirms his commitment to the Constitution, the independence of the Judiciary and the rule of law,” the statement read.
The Presidency said Ramaphosa has consistently cooperated with various investigations and enquiries related to the matter.
“President Ramaphosa has been consistent in providing his full assistance to the various enquiries into this matter,” the statement added.
The President also reiterated his position that no individual is above the law and that all allegations must be dealt with through proper legal processes.
“President Ramaphosa maintains that no person is above the law and that any allegations should be subjected to due process without fear, favour or prejudice,” the Presidency said.
Ramaphosa further called on South Africans to respect the Constitutional Court’s judgment as well as the country’s judicial institutions.
