Grade 12 learner arrested after teenage girl found murdered in Tembisa

Police in Tembisa have arrested an 18-year-old Grade 12 learner from Ingqayizivele Secondary School following the murder of a 17-year-old learner from the same school.

According to police, officers were called to a murder scene on Friday, 24 April 2026, after the body of a teenage girl was discovered in an open space between Emkhathini and Endulwini Section.

The victim, who was still dressed in her school uniform, was found dumped in a stream with multiple stab wounds to her upper body.

She was later identified as Lethabo Maroga from Vusumuzi Section.

Police said detectives immediately launched an investigation and followed up on information that ultimately led to the arrest of the suspect.

Cyril Nkuna, the Tembisa Station Commander, praised the investigation team for their persistence and dedication in tracking down the suspect.

“With this arrest, I urge the community to remain calm and allow the police space to do their work so that justice can take its course. We do not have to rush arresting suspects, but we want to present watertight cases before the courts and finally remove criminals from the community through hefty sentences,” said Brigadier Nkuna.

The 18-year-old suspect is expected to appear before the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court soon on a charge of murder.
