Zimbabwean businessman Lawrence Mudzinganyama has apologised to women he allegedly threatened at Vlamo restaurant in Sandton on Friday, 18 September.
The apology follows a viral video of the incident and an intimidation case opened by the restaurant owner.
“I apologise unreservedly to the women involved. The aggressive and threatening language I used was unacceptable and unjustifiable,” Mudzinganyama said.
He said he accepted responsibility for his conduct, regretted the fear and distress caused, and would cooperate with law enforcement. He also committed to undergoing a conflict-management programme.
In the video, Mudzinganyama is heard threatening the women and referring to his wealth. He was later escorted from the restaurant.
The incident has also prompted investigations into a R107 million SANRAL tender awarded to his company, Moriel Infrastructure Group.
The Department of Public Works is separately investigating allegations concerning his Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) gradings.
Minister Sindisiwe Chikunga has called on Mudzinganyama to hand himself over to authorities.
