Umzimvubu Municipality Brings Services Closer to Residents Through Ratepayers Service Day

Umzimvubu Local Municipality is hosted the second leg of its Ratepayers Service Day at Sophia Recreational Park in KwaBhaca, following a successful first engagement held in EmaXesibeni last week. The initiative forms part of the municipality’s ongoing efforts to strengthen accountability, promote transparency, and enhance service delivery to communities.

The programme is designed to bring municipal services directly to residents by creating a platform for meaningful engagement between ratepayers and municipal officials. Revenue officials are on site providing practical assistance with a range of account-related matters, ensuring that residents receive immediate support and clear guidance.

A key focus area of the initiative is property valuations. Officials are working to verify and update municipal records to ensure they accurately reflect residents’ properties. Any discrepancies identified are being corrected on site, allowing ratepayers to leave with updated and accurate account information.

The municipality is also assisting residents with structured and manageable payment arrangements. These plans aim to ease financial pressure while encouraging a culture of accountability and responsible account management.

The Ratepayers Service Day has created an accessible and welcoming environment for one-on-one consultations, giving residents the opportunity to raise concerns, seek clarity, and better understand their municipal accounts.

Municipal Manager, Mr Tobela Nota, emphasised that support extends beyond the outreach programme. He encouraged residents to visit municipal Revenue Offices at any time for assistance with account queries, property valuations, and payment arrangements.

Mayor Cllr Zukiswa Ndevu reaffirmed the municipality’s commitment to working closely with communities, stating that the initiative is part of broader efforts to promote transparency, strengthen cooperation, and ensure that municipal services remain accessible and responsive to the needs of all residents
