Grieving relatives are expected to face an emotional court appearance on Tuesday when three men accused in the killing of seven members of the Monswamy family appear before the KwaDukuza Magistrate’s Court.
Family spokesperson Vim Pillay said the case is especially painful as some of the suspects were known to the family. “Some of the suspects were known to the family and had worked with Alan Monswamy in his business,” he said.
He added that the family and supporters are demanding justice. “Relatives, friends and supporters are united in their demand for justice following the horrific incident,” Pillay said.
The suspects, aged 21, 26, and 28, were arrested last week after an intensive police investigation.
Seven family members — including Alan Monswamy (52), his wife Sandy (57), their children Kraidon (26) and Shamaria (20), and relatives Gonosagren Padayachee (51), Mooniamma Padayachee (78) and Mariama Happanah (83) — were allegedly abducted from their Newtown home in Newark before being killed in Melmoth.
Police said investigations are continuing, while reports indicate the case came to light after a domestic worker discovered signs of a break-in and reported the family missing.
