Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso has warned that the congested fixture schedule could lead to more injuries for both his club and Hugo Broos’s Bafana Bafana as the season nears a critical stage ahead of the FIFA World Cup.
Sundowns are competing in the CAF Champions League and the closing stages of the Betway Premiership, placing heavy strain on players and increasing injury risks.
“I spoke about it several months ago, regarding the schedule that we were putting on,” Cardoso said. “There’s more injuries to happen, because it’s normal when teams have to play every three days or seven matches in 21 days.”
He added: “Let’s hope Bafana Bafana will not lose players and suffer big setbacks ahead of the World Cup.”
Sundowns are currently without Brayan Leon, Nuno Santos, and Arthur Sales due to injury, with all three expected to miss Wednesday’s clash against Polokwane City.
