The attempted murder case against Limpopo musician Lehlogonolo Katlego Chauke, popularly known as Shebeshxt, is expected to take a key step forward today as he makes his first appearance in the Polokwane Regional Court for a set trial date.
The matter was escalated from the magistrate’s court after his latest bail application was denied last month, with the court finding that he failed to demonstrate exceptional circumstances justifying his release.
The 31-year-old artist faces nine serious charges, including attempted murder, assault, possession of an unlicensed firearm, and malicious damage to property.
In his unsuccessful bail bid, Shebeshxt argued that he required release to access ongoing medical treatment for his right leg following an Open Reduction Internal Fixation (ORIF) procedure. However, the court was not persuaded, and he has remained in custody pending the transfer of the case to the regional court.
Today’s proceedings are expected to focus on setting a trial date and outlining the next steps in what has become a closely watched case in Limpopo’s legal and entertainment circles.
