Sekhukhune United F.C. have confirmed the departure of head coach Eric Tinkler, bringing an end to his tenure despite signing off with a victory.
Tinkler’s final match in charge saw Sekhukhune secure a narrow 1-0 win over Magesi FC this past weekend. However, the result came on the back of a challenging spell, with the team enduring a five-match winless run in the Betway Premiership.
The club’s difficulties were also evident in cup competition. After showing early promise in the Nedbank Cup, Sekhukhune’s hopes of lifting silverware were ended in the quarter-finals following a defeat to Milford FC. The result intensified scrutiny on the technical team and ultimately contributed to the decision to part ways with Tinkler.
Sekhukhune currently occupy fifth place on the Betway Premiership standings, but inconsistent performances throughout the campaign have raised concerns within the club’s hierarchy.
Attention now turns to the future, with Sekhukhune expected to begin the process of appointing a permanent head coach in the coming weeks. In the meantime, the team will look to maintain focus on the pitch as they prepare for their upcoming league clash against Stellenbosch FC at the Athlone Stadium on Friday.
