SAPS offers R30,000 reward for information on suspect linked to serious crimes

The South African Police Service (SAPS) in the Eastern Cape has announced a reward of up to R30,000 for information that could lead to the location of a man sought in connection with several serious and violent crimes in the Nelson Mandela Bay District.

Police are searching for Donovan Williams, also known as “Poenie”, who is wanted for questioning in relation to a number of criminal investigations, including murder, kidnapping and fraud, dating back to 2020.

According to SAPS, the Nelson Mandela Bay District Detective Intervention Task Team has been investigating the disappearance of two individuals in separate cases that remain unresolved.

The first case involves Quinton Plaatjie, also known as “Doenas”, who was reported missing at Bethelsdorp Police Station in 2020. The second concerns Loay Khayat, who was reported missing at Kariega Police Station in August 2025.

Williams is also being sought in connection with investigations into two separate double murder cases that shocked communities in Nelson Mandela Bay.

The first incident occurred in September 2021 when Earl Classen and Clarissa Swart were murdered in Kariega. The second took place in April 2022 in Kamesh, where Isaac Moses and Merlyn Elkenstead were killed.

Police said Williams is wanted for questioning and may be able to provide crucial information regarding some of the crimes under investigation.

Despite several attempts by investigators to trace and locate him, Williams has remained elusive, prompting SAPS to offer a cash reward for information that could assist in finding him.

Authorities have urged anyone with information about Williams’ whereabouts to come forward. All information received will be treated with strict confidentiality.
