Pensioner to appear in Prieska court over R20,000 drug bust

A 61-year-old man is expected to appear before the Prieska Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 4 May 2026, following his arrest for the alleged possession of drugs valued at more than R20,000.

The suspect was apprehended after police carried out an intelligence-driven operation at a residence in Pedro Street, Prieska, on Wednesday, 29 April 2026.

According to police, members secured a search warrant before proceeding to the premises, where they discovered an assortment of illegal substances, including mandrax tablets and tik.

District Commissioner of the South African Police Service in the Pixley ka Seme District, Nomana Mtukushe, welcomed the arrest and praised officers for their dedication and swift response.

Mtukushe also issued a strong warning to those involved in drug-related activities, emphasizing that law enforcement agencies will continue to intensify operations aimed at removing drugs from communities and ensuring offenders are brought to justice.

Police investigations are ongoing.
