The bail application of alleged criminal fixer Oupa Brown Mogotsi has been postponed to 1 September 2026 by the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court.
Mogotsi is seeking bail based on new facts.
The postponement will allow Correctional Services to provide the court with a detailed report on an alleged escape plan involving Mogotsi, which authorities reportedly intercepted.
The court heard that a Correctional Services official alerted the investigating officer that Mogotsi was allegedly planning to escape. Arrangements were then made to prevent him from fleeing.
Mogotsi faces charges including unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition, discharging a firearm in a built-up area, defeating the administration of justice and perjury.
It is alleged that on 3 November 2025, Mogotsi told police he had been pursued by occupants of a bakkie while driving in Vosloorus. He claimed the occupants fired several shots at his vehicle, forcing him to stop and flee on foot.
The NPA says it will continue presenting relevant information to the court as the matter proceeds.
