The uMkhonto weSizwe Party says it has formally written to National Assembly Speaker Thoko Didiza requesting the initiation of impeachment proceedings against Public Protector Kholeka Gcaleka.
The party accuses Gcaleka of alleged incompetence and misconduct in her handling of the Phala Phala matter, claiming she failed to identify or refer possible criminal conduct, abuse of state resources and irregular actions involving senior police officials.
MK Party said the alleged omissions raise serious concerns about bias and competence within Chapter 9 institutions.
“The Public Protector’s role is to protect the public, and not the politics of a sitting President or politicians,” the party said.
The request now places pressure on Parliament to decide whether proceedings should be initiated to assess Gcaleka’s fitness to hold office.
