Matlala case postponed amid legal and medical setbacks

Pre-trial proceedings in the high-profile case involving Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala and his co-accused have been postponed to 17 June 2026 in the Johannesburg High Court.

The postponement was granted after the court allowed co-accused Musa Kekana’s newly appointed legal representative time to prepare for proceedings, while another accused, Tiego Mabusela, is set to receive medical attention.

During the hearing, Matlala’s legal team also withdrew an application seeking further disclosure from the State.

Matlala, his wife Tsakane, and several co-accused face multiple charges, including attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, money laundering, and fraud. All have pleaded not guilty.

Matlala remains in custody after being denied bail, while the case continues to move through pre-trial processes ahead of the main trial scheduled for 20 July 2026.

The matter is expected to resume on Wednesday as preparations for trial continue.
