Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi says investigations into the kidnapping of Vosloorus spaza shop owner Mazwi Kubheka are ongoing, despite his safe return after nearly a month.
Kubheka, who went missing on 2 April, arrived unharmed at a Vosloorus police station on Saturday night.
Lesufi confirmed suspects have been identified, stressing the case remains open. “We want to reiterate that this matter is not closed,” he said.
Provincial Police Commissioner Tommy Mthombeni said Kubheka was abducted on his way to the bank and held in a suspected hijacked building, guarded by two Malawian nationals.
“Yesterday, around 19:30, the victim presented himself at the Community Service Center after being picked up near Carnival City,” Mthombeni said.
Police say investigations are continuing, with new leads emerging from the victim’s statement.
