A journey on the N10 ended in tragedy in the early hours of Thursday morning when three people believed to be members of the same family were killed in a head-on collision near Tarkastad in the Eastern Cape.
The crash, involving a BMW sedan and a truck, happened at about 02h30.
The three victims — a man, a woman and a child — were travelling in the BMW. All three died in the collision, while the truck driver escaped unharmed.
The circumstances surrounding the crash have not yet been established and remain the subject of a police investigation.
A case of culpable homicide has been opened at the Tarkastad Police Station as investigators work to determine what led to the fatal collision.
Eastern Cape Department of Transport MEC Xolile Nqatha has conveyed his condolences to the victims’ families and loved ones.
