Veteran goalkeeper Darren Keet has officially announced that he will retire from professional football at the end of the 2025/26 season, bringing the curtain down on a distinguished career that ends on a high note.
Keet played a crucial role in Durban City FC’s historic Nedbank Cup victory, where they defeated TS Galaxy FC 2-1 in the final at the Peter Mokaba Stadium. The triumph marked a memorable milestone for both the club and the experienced shot-stopper.
According to Keet, the decision to retire was made months ago in consultation with his family, with the Nedbank Cup success serving as a symbolic full stop to his playing career. He described the trophy as both his “first and last,” adding emotional weight to his farewell season.
The goalkeeper has been a key figure for Durban City FC, offering leadership and stability between the posts as the club enjoyed a successful campaign. His performances were instrumental in their cup run, cementing his status as one of the team’s most influential players.
Keet also leaves behind a proud international legacy, having represented South Africa at senior level and contributed to the national team’s efforts during his career.
