Controversial anti-illegal immigration activist Ngizwe Mchunu is currently participating in an anti-illegal immigration protest in KuGompo, where demonstrators have gathered to demand stricter enforcement of immigration laws.
Mchunu posted on his social media platforms that his group had arrived in the area and that the march would be conducted peacefully. Protesters are calling on authorities to take action against undocumented foreign nationals and are urging participants to remain within the confines of the law.
The demonstration comes ahead of 30 June, a date that protest organisers and anti-illegal immigration groups have identified as a deadline by which they expect undocumented migrants to leave South Africa or be dealt with through law enforcement action. However, the deadline has been set by activists and does not constitute an official government directive.
Police and other law enforcement agencies are monitoring the protest to ensure public safety and prevent any incidents of violence, intimidation, or damage to property.
The protest forms part of a growing national campaign by anti-illegal immigration groups, with similar demonstrations taking place in several communities across the country. Authorities have reiterated that while citizens have the constitutional right to protest peacefully, any criminal conduct will be dealt with in accordance with the law.
